NEW YORK — In a significant development, Donald Trump has appointed Stephen Miller, a staunch advocate for strict immigration policies, as the deputy chief of policy in his upcoming administration.
Vice President-elect JD Vance took to X on Monday to express his support for Miller’s appointment, stating that it was “another fantastic pick by the president.” This news was initially reported by CNN.
Miller previously served as a senior adviser during Trump’s initial term and played a key role in shaping many of the administration’s policies. Notably, he was instrumental in the controversial decision to separate thousands of immigrant families in 2018 as part of a deterrence strategy. He has been behind numerous of Trump’s hard-line immigration speeches and strategies.
Following his departure from the White House, Miller became the president of America First Legal, a group established by former Trump aides that aims to address issues from a conservative perspective, similar to the American Civil Liberties Union. This organization has been active in challenging the Biden administration, as well as media outlets, universities, and other entities on matters related to free speech, religious liberties, and national security.
