NEW YORK — President-elect Donald Trump has appointed Rep. Elise Stefanik to take on the role of ambassador to the United Nations.
In a statement released on Monday, Trump praised Stefanik, saying, “Elise is an incredibly strong, tough, and smart America First fighter.”
Nikki Haley, who previously ran against Trump for the Republican nomination, held this position during his first term.
At just 40 years old, Stefanik currently holds the position of House Republican Conference Chair and has been recognized as one of Trump’s staunchest supporters within Congress.
Moreover, she was previously considered as a potential candidate for vice president.
Stefanik’s selection is in line with Trump’s intention to surround himself with individuals who prioritize his “America First” agenda as he prepares to continue his political legacy.
