Jennifer Lopez opens up on ‘challenging relationships’ and motherhood amid Ben Affleck divorce

Jennifer Lopez opened up about navigating complex relationships and motherhood at a Nov. 5 Q&A session for her upcoming film, Unstoppable.

Lopez, who stars as Judy Robles, mother of NCAA wrestling champion Anthony Robles, shared how the role resonates with her own experiences as she continues her divorce from estranged husband Ben Affleck.

Lopez explained that her character’s journey reflects what many women face when balancing difficult personal issues with being a mother. “I think a lot of women have gone through that,” she said, noting the depth of her conversations with the real Judy Robles to authentically capture her experience. Lopez, who shares twins Max and Emme with ex-husband Marc Anthony, emphasized that her goal was to embody the strength and resilience Judy brought to her family.

In the Q&A, Lopez revealed that she sought to “not just play the mom her kids knew, but the woman who raised them,” adding, “I didn’t want anybody to see me. I wanted them to see Judy.”

The film, produced by Affleck’s Artists Equity company, is set to release in theaters on Dec. 6. Affleck praised Lopez’s performance, calling her “spectacular,” to which Lopez responded warmly, saying, “I would describe all of the cast and everyone behind the scenes as spectacular and wonderful.”
