Grizzlies All-Star Ja Morant deemed week-to-week due to right hip injury

The Memphis Grizzlies have announced that their All-Star point guard, Ja Morant, is dealing with a right hip injury that will keep him sidelined on a week-to-week basis.
Morant was observed using crutches following the Grizzlies’ victory over the Washington Wizards on Friday night. Initially, it was reported that he had sustained a right hamstring injury during the game against the Lakers on Wednesday.

Following further diagnostic testing, the team revealed that Morant suffered from severe right hip flexion after being bumped while attempting to make a play in the air during the third quarter against Los Angeles. While there was no dislocation, he did experience a partial dislocation of the hip along with several Grade 1 muscle strains in the pelvic area.
The Grizzlies confirmed that they would provide updates on Morant’s condition as necessary.

As the team prepared to travel to Portland for a matchup against the Trail Blazers on Sunday night, Coach Taylor Jenkins noted that Morant was feeling more pain in the hip based on further evaluations. He underwent medical testing on Friday, and another consultation was scheduled for Saturday.

Last season, Morant faced a challenging start, missing the first 25 games due to a suspension from the NBA related to off-court incidents. He managed to return for only nine games before a shoulder injury interrupted his season, ultimately requiring surgery that ended his year prematurely.
In the current season, he has been averaging 20.6 points across his first eight games, and the Grizzlies currently hold a 6-4 record, sitting in sixth place in the Western Conference after missing a playoff spot last year.

Memphis is already coping without two of its starting players, Marcus Smart and Desmond Bane, who are also on a week-to-week recovery timeline due to injuries sustained in the same game. Smart is dealing with a sprained right ankle, while Bane has a strain in his right oblique muscle.
