LINCOLN, Neb. — In an exciting matchup on Saturday, the No. 23 Nebraska Cornhuskers pulled off a dramatic 78-68 victory against Southeastern Louisiana, fueled by a strong fourth-quarter performance led by Natalie Potts, who contributed 17 points to the game.
Throughout the contest, the Cornhuskers found themselves trailing for a significant portion until they surged ahead in the fourth quarter. A pivotal moment came when Alberte Rimdal converted a three-point play, followed by Potts sinking a three-pointer to edge Nebraska ahead at 60-59 just over a minute into the final quarter. Although Cheyanne Daniels reclaimed the lead for Southeastern Louisiana with a score, the Cornhuskers quickly responded with Potts executing a layup and Rimdal hitting another three-pointer, lifting Nebraska to a 65-61 advantage.
With just under two minutes remaining, Nebraska held a narrow 70-68 lead when Logan Nissley made a crucial 3-pointer that ignited an 8-0 run to close out the game. During this stretch, Nebraska secured the final five points from the free-throw line, while Southeastern Louisiana struggled with three missed attempts and a turnover.
In addition to Potts, Rimdal and Nissley each added 14 points for the Cornhuskers, while Petra Bozan contributed 11 points. Both Potts and Nissley excelled from long-range, each hitting four 3-pointers. Nebraska’s overall shooting stats were impressive, finishing with a 52% shooting percentage (26 of 50) and converting 14 of 29 (approximately 48%) from beyond the arc.
The defining fourth quarter saw Nebraska go 7 of 10 from the field, including three 3-pointers, plus 7 of 11 at the charity stripe, leading to an impressive scoring differential of 24-11 against Southeastern Louisiana for that period.
On the other side, Alexius Horne stood out for Southeastern Louisiana, scoring 24 points, while Lexi Alexander added 14 points. The Lions shot an impressive 51% from the field (27 of 53), although they struggled from three-point range with only five conversions and were outscored 40-24 in the paint.
Southeastern Louisiana had a strong start, shooting 16 for 26 (61%) in the first half, which enabled them to take a 37-31 lead and maintain their advantage from the middle of the first quarter. Nebraska, on the other hand, recorded a similar first-half shooting percentage until missing their last four attempts, leading to a 45.5% finish, despite making 7 of 15 from three-point territory.
