DOVER, Del. — In an exciting matchup on Saturday, Morgan State triumphed over Delaware State with a score of 36-28, thanks to standout performances from Duce Taylor and Jason Collins Jr.
Taylor showcased his passing ability, throwing for a total of 218 yards along with one touchdown. Collins made his mark with a notable rushing game, accumulating 138 yards and securing a touchdown for the the Bears.
The decisive moment of the game came with just 2:54 left on the clock in the fourth quarter when Morgan State began their drive. On a crucial third-and-7 play, Taylor found Andre Crawley with a pass for an 18-yard gain. Following two short runs by Collins, Crawley dashed into the end zone for a 16-yard touchdown, although the extra point attempt was unsuccessful.
Delaware State attempted to respond quickly, returning the following kickoff 34 yards to their own 42-yard line with 1:40 remaining in the game. However, the hopes of a comeback were dashed when Lance Byndon delivered a decisive sack to C.J. Henry on a critical fourth-and-4 play, giving Morgan State control of the ball.
In addition to the performances of Taylor and Collins, Myles Miree contributed to Morgan State’s success with 79 rushing yards and a touchdown, while Crawley also found the end zone on his only carry.
On the opposing side, Delaware State’s C.J. Henry had an impressive game, completing 22 of his 27 passes for 294 yards and two touchdowns. Jaden Sutton provided a solid ground game, rushing for 135 yards on 19 carries and scoring two touchdowns of his own.
This victory marked a significant moment for Morgan State, improving their record to 5-5 overall with a 2-1 standing in the MEAC conference. Meanwhile, Delaware State continued to struggle, slipping to a disappointing 1-9, now sitting at 0-3 within the conference.
