LONDON — Queen Camilla will not participate in this year’s remembrance weekend activities that honor fallen servicemen and women due to ongoing recovery from a chest infection, according to an announcement from Buckingham Palace on Saturday.
The Queen, who is married to King Charles III, was planned to attend the “Festival of Remembrance” at the Royal Albert Hall in London on Saturday night. She was also slated to pay her respects to the war dead at the prominent Remembrance Sunday ceremony at the Cenotaph war memorial the following day.
A palace statement clarified that “Following doctors’ advice to ensure a complete recovery from a seasonal chest infection and to mitigate any risk to others, Her Majesty will not be present at this weekend’s Remembrance events.” The statement also mentioned her significant disappointment regarding her absence.
Both King Charles and his daughter-in-law, Kate, the Princess of Wales, are expected to attend the remembrance events despite the difficult personal circumstances they have faced. Both had revealed their cancer diagnoses earlier in the year.
King Charles was diagnosed with an undisclosed type of cancer in February but has gradually resumed his public engagements after undergoing treatment and even recently completed a trip to Australia and Samoa.
Meanwhile, Kate received treatment for an unspecified form of cancer, which was detected after she underwent abdominal surgery earlier in the year. In September, she acknowledged the challenges of the past year but expressed relief at having completed her chemotherapy.
The royal family’s dedication to attending the remembrance events highlights their commitment to honoring those who have served in the armed forces, especially during challenging personal times.
