TRENTON, N.J. — In an impressive display of talent, Jamal Mashburn Jr. scored 25 points, contributing significantly to Temple’s commanding 103-74 victory over Monmouth on Friday evening.
Mashburn showcased his shooting prowess, converting 10 of 15 attempts from the field, which included 3 of 4 from three-point territory for the Owls, who improved their record to 2-0. William Settle also had a strong performance, tallying 17 points while hitting 3 of 11 shots, 3 of which were from beyond the arc. Additionally, he excelled at the free-throw line, making 8 of 10 attempts and securing 11 rebounds along with three blocks. Dillon Battie added to the scoreboard with 16 points, shooting 5 of 7 overall and going 6 for 8 from the free-throw line.
On the other hand, the Hawks fell to 0-2 despite a solid effort from Madison Durr, who led their scoring with 17 points, complemented by six rebounds and six assists. Jack Collins contributed 11 points, along with six rebounds and four assists, while Abdi Bashir Jr. chipped in with 10 points for Monmouth.
Temple established its dominance early, taking the lead just 18 minutes into the first half and maintaining control throughout the game. Mashburn’s remarkable first-half performance, where he netted 20 points, helped secure a significant 54-33 lead at halftime. The Owls continued to outpace the Hawks in the second half, outscoring them by eight points, with Settle leading his team in scoring during that period with a total of 10 points.
