WASHINGTON — Trey Autry was instrumental in leading the George Washington basketball team to a commanding 82-54 victory over Hampton on Friday evening, scoring a total of 14 points.
Autry showcased his skills throughout the game by making 4 out of 6 field goal attempts, which included 2 successful shots from beyond the arc, and hitting 4 out of 5 free throws for the Revolutionaries, bringing their record to 2-0.
In addition to Autry’s performance, Gerald Drumgoole Jr. contributed significantly with 13 points, shooting 5 of 12 from the floor, despite struggling with his three-point shooting, finishing only 1 for 7 from long range.
Jacoi Hutchinson also made an impact, scoring 12 points and finishing 5 for 8 from the field, which included making 1 out of 3 from three-point territory.
On the other hand, George Beale was the standout player for Hampton (1-1), netting 19 points while Wayne Bristol added 13 points to the effort.
George Washington gained control of the game early, taking the lead at the 17:04 mark in the first half and maintaining it throughout. The halftime score stood at 32-24, with Trey Moss contributing seven points before the break.
In the second half, the Revolutionaries surged ahead significantly, launching a 15-2 scoring run that ballooned their lead to 21 points. Drumgoole took charge during this period, leading the team with 11 points in the second half.
This decisive victory puts George Washington in a strong early season position as they continue their campaign.
