ANAHEIM, California — Zach Neto, the shortstop for the Los Angeles Angels, is likely to be sidelined at the start of the 2025 season due to recent shoulder surgery.
On Friday, Angels general manager Perry Minasian revealed that Neto underwent the operation earlier in the week.
“He will miss some time,” Minasian noted. “The duration of his absence is yet to be determined.”
At just 23 years old, Neto has made a name for himself as a consistent major league shortstop this season, finishing with a batting average of .249, alongside 23 home runs and 77 RBIs.
Drafted in the first round in 2022, he stood out as one of the few positives for the Angels during what has been labeled the worst season in the franchise’s history.
Unfortunately, Neto sustained a shoulder injury while sliding into a base against the White Sox in late September, and despite attempts to treat the problem through rest and rehabilitation, it did not improve.
