NEW YORK — On Friday, law enforcement officers in New York City apprehended a suspect accused of shooting a man on the streets of Manhattan before disappearing into the extensive subway network, which caused notable delays for commuters on Thursday morning.

The arrested individual, identified as 25-year-old Eduardo Diaz, was taken into custody at his residence in Queens according to a police announcement. He is facing several charges, including attempted murder and assault.

As of now, there has not been a date established for his arraignment, and a representative from the Manhattan District Attorney’s office remarked that they will not provide any details regarding his potential legal representation until his court appearance.

The incident occurred at approximately 9 a.m. on Thursday on the Upper West Side. The police have not disclosed the identity of the 47-year-old victim, who sustained gunshot wounds to both his leg and shoulder. Currently, he is in a stable condition and receiving treatment in the hospital.

Following the shooting, Diaz entered the 72nd Street subway station, leading authorities to instruct commuters to lie down on the subway floors and take cover as they conducted a search for him.

To assist in their search, law enforcement officials also cut power to the subway station and suspended train services, resulting in further delays for travelers.

Authorities have not yet commented on the relationship between Diaz and the victim, nor have they revealed any details regarding what might have triggered the violent confrontation.
