NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Tennessee Titans will have Will Levis back as their starting quarterback this Sunday in a matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers. Coach Brian Callahan announced this decision on Friday, highlighting that Levis has recovered well after missing the previous three games due to a shoulder injury.
“There’s no reason to delay,” said Callahan during a post-practice press conference. “He had an excellent week of practice and has shown significant improvement, perhaps the best he’s looked in weeks. I’m eager to see how he performs moving forward.”
Levis sustained a sprained AC joint in his right shoulder during a game against Miami on September 30 while making a diving attempt for a first down. After a bye week, he returned to play on October 13 but struggled in a loss to the Indianapolis Colts. Following that game, he acknowledged that his injury affected his performance, particularly on a crucial interception that contributed to a narrow three-point defeat.
In Levis’s absence, backup quarterback Mason Rudolph took his place, ending the past three games with a record of 1-2 for the Titans, who currently hold a record of 2-6. The organization aims to provide Levis with the full season to evaluate if he can be their long-term solution at the quarterback position. Prior to his injury, Levis had been grappling with turnover issues, recording seven interceptions and three fumbles. In five starts, he completed 83 of 125 passes for a total of 699 yards and five touchdowns.
“I just want to ensure that I can throw like I did before the injury,” Levis explained on Thursday. “It’s a daily journey of testing my abilities and assessing any soreness or pain levels throughout the day. I will know I’m ready when I can consistently make those throws.”
Callahan expressed confidence in Levis’s recovery, noting not only his improved practice performance but also his overall well-being.
“He’s still feeling a bit of minor soreness, but overall, this is the best he’s felt yet, and he’s throwing the ball exceptionally well. He seems ready to take on the challenge,” Callahan stated.
In other injury news, cornerback L’Jarius Sneed will be sidelined for his fourth consecutive game due to a quadriceps injury. Callahan clarified that what began as a thigh bruise also included a muscle strain after further examination through an MRI.
“It started with a pretty severe quad bruise, but the MRI revealed a significant strain as well. It’s unfortunate, as muscle strains can prolong recovery,” explained Callahan.
Most players listed on the Titans’ injury report are expected to participate in Sunday’s game; however, right guard Dillon Radunz, who missed the previous match due to turf toe, and running back Tyjae Spears, who has been out for three games because of a hamstring issue, will undergo workouts on Sunday to assess their availability.
