The Dallas Wings announced on Friday the appointment of Curt Miller as their general manager and executive vice president of basketball operations.
Miller transitions to the Wings after two seasons as head coach of the Los Angeles Sparks.
Prior to that, he spent seven years at the helm of the Connecticut Sun, where he also served as the general manager for six years.
Dallas Wings President and CEO Greg Bibb expressed confidence in Miller’s track record, stating, “Curt Miller is a proven winner with deep experience building and leading WNBA rosters and staffs.”
He emphasized that Miller’s skills in team construction and coaching success at the WNBA level will be crucial as the franchise actively seeks to capture a WNBA Championship.
Bibb had previously taken on the GM role, which he vacated last month following the dismissal of head coach Latricia Trammell.
One of Miller’s immediate responsibilities will be to find a new head coach for the team, as there are currently five coaching vacancies across the league, including those in Washington, Atlanta, Los Angeles, and Connecticut.
Miller’s accolades include being a two-time WNBA Coach of the Year and guiding the Connecticut Sun to the playoffs for six consecutive seasons, achieving two Finals appearances in 2019 and 2022.
“The potential of the Dallas Wings is immeasurable,” Miller remarked, highlighting the promise of a new arena and practice facility alongside a talented roster that makes a significant impact both on the court and in the community.
He also mentioned the excitement surrounding their positioning in the upcoming draft and acknowledged the team’s dedicated fanbase.
Before embarking on his WNBA career, Miller coached at the college level at Indiana and Bowling Green.
He is among a select group of coaches to have achieved over 250 victories in college and more than 150 in the WNBA, joining the ranks of Van Chancellor and Lin Dunn.
The Wings are set to participate in the WNBA draft lottery and will secure a minimum of the No. 3 pick due to a swap agreement with the Chicago Sky.
In addition to welcoming Miller, Bibb also revealed promotions within the front office.
Travis Charles ascends from his previous role as vice president of basketball operations and assistant general manager to senior vice president of basketball operations while maintaining his title as assistant GM.
His tenure with the organization spans 11 seasons, where he has managed all aspects of basketball operations, including video, scouting, and travel logistics.
Jasmine Thomas has been promoted to vice president of basketball operations and assistant general manager, reuniting with Miller, under whom she played in Connecticut.
