ST. LOUIS — On Thursday, Diamond Sports Group revealed that it has finalized a multi-year deal with the St. Louis Cardinals that will allow the continued broadcasting of their games.

The Cardinals are among five Major League Baseball teams that own a stake in their regional sports network.

Starting next season, games will be broadcast on FanDuel Sports Network Midwest. This announcement comes after FanDuel acquired the naming rights to Diamond’s 16 regional sports networks, taking over from Bally, a partnership that existed since March 2021.

As a component of this agreement, fans who subscribe to cable or satellite services within the Cardinals’ broadcasting area will have the ability to stream games along with additional programming using the FanDuel Sports Network app. Furthermore, individuals subscribing directly to FanDuel Sports Network will also enjoy access to the games.

Cardinals president Bill DeWitt III expressed enthusiasm in a statement, emphasizing the importance of continuity for fans and the exciting opportunity to broaden access to Cardinals content across various platforms in the upcoming year.

Currently, Diamond Sports is undergoing Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings in the Southern District of Texas, having sought protection in March 2023. According to a financial filing from last year, the company reported a staggering debt of $8.67 billion.

A critical hearing regarding Diamond’s reorganization plan is set for November 14.

In connection with this reorganization, Diamond has annulled its contracts with the Detroit Tigers and Tampa Bay Rays and aims to renegotiate agreements with the remaining four franchises—Cincinnati Reds, Kansas City Royals, Los Angeles Angels, and Miami Marlins—that share ownership of their regional sports networks.

David Preschlack, the CEO of Diamond, mentioned that discussions with the other franchises are ongoing.

Major League Baseball is anticipated to take charge of the production and distribution for at least six teams through the 2025 season, having already assumed broadcasting responsibilities for the San Diego Padres and Arizona Diamondbacks in 2023, as well as the Colorado Rockies this year.

Recently, MLB announced the addition of the Cleveland Guardians, Milwaukee Brewers, and Minnesota Twins for next season, following the expiration of their agreements with Diamond.

The Texas Rangers are currently evaluating their options for the upcoming season after announcing they will not be continuing a partnership with Diamond, as their deal recently ended.

In addition to MLB, Diamond also holds broadcasting rights for 13 NBA teams and eight NHL franchises.

Diamond Sports Group and Sinclair Broadcast Group completed the acquisition of these regional sports networks from The Walt Disney Company for nearly $10 billion in 2019, following a mandate from the Department of Justice that required Disney to divest these networks as part of the approval process for its acquisition of 21st Century Fox’s film and television assets.
