STORRS, Conn. — In their season opener, the No. 3 UConn men’s basketball team delivered an impressive performance by defeating Sacred Heart with a score of 92-56 on Wednesday night.
Alex Karaban showcased an all-around skill set, contributing significantly with 20 points, seven rebounds, seven blocks, and six assists, setting an early tone for the Huskies.
Liam McNeeley also played a pivotal role, tallying 18 points along with 10 rebounds, supporting UConn’s pursuit of a third consecutive national title. Solo Ball added to the scoring with 16 points, complementing his teammates well.
Defensively, UConn dominated the boards with a total of 47 rebounds against Sacred Heart’s 25, proving their physical presence in the paint.
Tarris Reed contributed with a solid performance, netting 15 points and grabbing 11 rebounds, while Amiri Stewart and Bryce Johnson provided support for the Pioneers with 13 and 10 points respectively.
Tanner Thomas, who previously scored 22 points in Sacred Heart’s opening loss against Temple, faced challenges this time, finishing the game with only six points.
