OMAHA, Neb. — In their season opener against UT-Rio Grande Valley, the Creighton Bluejays, ranked 15th, were missing starting guard Pop Isaacs due to an undisclosed injury. The game took place on Wednesday night, where Isaacs was seen participating in pregame warmups but dressed in civilian clothes rather than his team uniform.
Isaacs, who joined Creighton after transferring from Texas Tech, had undergone surgery last spring to fix an ongoing hip issue. With Isaacs sidelined, Mason Miller stepped in to fill his position in the starting lineup.
In a charity exhibition held on October 26, Isaacs performed impressively, scoring a team-high of 24 points on 10-of-14 shooting while also contributing six assists. This was part of Creighton’s 93-87 victory over the 14th-ranked Purdue.
Last season, Isaacs made his mark at Texas Tech, starting all 34 games and finishing as the sixth-highest scorer in the Big 12 with an average of 15.8 points per game. His absence from the lineup will certainly be felt as the Bluejays aim to make a strong start this season.
