SALT LAKE CITY — Taylor Hendricks, a forward for the Utah Jazz, successfully underwent surgery on Wednesday to address a fractured right fibula and a dislocated ankle.
Hendricks sustained this severe injury during the third quarter of the Jazz’s game against Dallas on October 28, which ended in a 110-102 defeat. The injury occurred as he lost his balance while sprinting down the court, leading to an awkward fall that was classified as a non-contact incident. The seriousness of the situation resulted in Hendricks being transported off the court on a stretcher.
“It was really difficult for everyone to watch,” said Utah’s head coach Will Hardy during a press briefing the following day. He emphasized that such events impact players differently, and it’s essential for teammates to support one another through these challenging moments.
In the current season, the second-year forward participated as a starter in three games, averaging 4.7 points and 5.0 rebounds over 25 minutes per game. The Jazz selected Hendricks as the ninth overall pick in the 2023 NBA draft. He had previously played 40 games in his rookie season, starting in 23 and averaging 7.3 points and 4.6 rebounds per game.
The surgery was conducted at the University of Utah Orthopedic Center located in Salt Lake City, marking a significant step in his recovery process.
