Democrat Emily Randall has successfully secured a U.S. House seat representing Washington as of Wednesday, thereby maintaining the open position for her party.
The 6th Congressional District, which she will now represent, encompasses the Olympic and Kitsap peninsulas, along with a significant portion of Tacoma.
This seat became available following the announcement from Democratic Representative Derek Kilmer that he would not pursue reelection for the position he has held since 2013.
Since 1965, the seat has consistently been occupied by Democratic lawmakers.
Before her congressional win, Randall spent six years serving in the Washington state Senate, bringing her political experience to the national stage.
The victory was officially announced at 4:49 p.m. EST.
