Democratic Representative Eric Swalwell has successfully secured reelection for his U.S. House seat on Wednesday, overcoming Republican opponent Vin Kruttiventi.
The congressional district he represents encompasses eastern Alameda County and a section of central Contra Costa County in northern California.
Swalwell initially took office in 2012 after defeating long-serving Democratic incumbent Pete Stark.
He also made an attempt to run for the presidency during the 2020 Democratic primaries but later withdrew from the race to endorse Joe Biden.
Election officials confirmed Swalwell’s victory at 2:56 a.m. EST.
