Republican Congressman Bryan Steil secured his reelection for a U.S. House seat in Wisconsin on Wednesday, successfully defeating challenger Peter Barca, the most recent Democrat to occupy the position.
Steil is now set to enter his fourth term after having first won the seat in 2018, succeeding former House Speaker Paul Ryan.
Barca, who had previously served in the state Legislature, stepped down from his role as Wisconsin’s revenue secretary to pursue this congressional seat against Steil.
This particular congressional district spans southeastern Wisconsin, bordering Illinois.
The announcement of Steil’s victory was made at 12:07 a.m. EST.
