On Wednesday, Democratic Representative Ted Lieu secured reelection for his U.S. House seat representing California, successfully defeating Republican opponent Melissa Toomim.
Lieu, a seasoned incumbent who first entered Congress in 2014, is well-known for his vocal opposition to the policies of former President Donald Trump. The 36th congressional district, where he won, is a solidly Democratic area that encompasses parts of western Los Angeles County, including notable locations like Beverly Hills and Santa Monica.
A retired colonel from the Air Force, Lieu holds important roles on the House Judiciary Committee and serves as the vice chair of the House Democratic Caucus. Before his tenure in Congress, he was a member of California’s state Legislature.
The announcement of Lieu’s victory was made at 12:06 a.m. EST, confirming his continued representation of the district and his ongoing influence in national politics.
