Democrat Kelly Morrison secured a victory in the election for a U.S. House seat from Minnesota on Tuesday.
Morrison, an OB-GYN and passionate supporter of abortion rights, hails from Deephaven.
She previously stepped down from her position in the Minnesota Senate this past June to focus on her congressional campaign.
She captured the 3rd District seat, which is located in the suburban area of Minneapolis, and was left open by Democratic Representative Dean Phillips, who had recently made an unsuccessful bid against President Joe Biden for the Democratic nomination.
Phillips voiced concerns about Biden’s age during his campaign.
On the opposing side, the Republican candidate was retired judge Tad Jude, who possesses a lengthy political background, having also served on the Hennepin County Board and as a state legislator.
Morrison’s victory was officially announced by the Associated Press at 11:55 p.m. EST.
