Republican Tony Wied has successfully secured a seat in the U.S. House representing Wisconsin following Tuesday’s election, ensuring the continuation of Republican representation in the region.
Wied, who gained endorsement from former President Donald Trump, triumphed over Democrat Kristin Lyerly, a physician with a background in obstetrics who had actively sought to challenge Wisconsin’s abortion legislation in court. Lyerly attempted to focus the campaign narrative on abortion issues; however, Wied ultimately emerged victorious in this district that predominantly favors Republican candidates.
The congressional seat became available following an unexpected resignation from Republican Mike Gallagher earlier in the year. Notably, this victory marks Wied’s first foray into the realm of public office, coming from an entrepreneurial background as the former owner of a gas station chain. The announcement of Wied’s win was made at 11:54 p.m. EST by media outlets.
