On Tuesday, Vice President Kamala Harris secured Washington’s 12 electoral votes, defeating former President Donald Trump in a state where he lacks significant support.
Washington has remained a stronghold for Democratic candidates, having not favored a Republican presidential candidate since Ronald Reagan’s victory in 1984. In the 2020 election, President Joe Biden received 58% of the vote, while Trump garnered less than 39%.
The declaration of Harris as the victor came shortly after 11:00 p.m. EST, as she continues to solidify her position within the Democratic Party and on the national stage.
