Horvat and Sorokin lead Islanders to 4-3 shootout victory over Penguins

NEW YORK — In an exciting matchup on Tuesday night, Bo Horvat secured the victory for the New York Islanders by scoring the deciding goal in a shootout, leading the team to a 4-3 comeback win against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Islanders’ goaltender, Ilya Sorokin, was instrumental in the shootout, successfully stopping attempts from Rickard Rakell, Sidney Crosby, and Kris Letang while making a total of 32 saves throughout the game. The Islanders found themselves down 3-1 in the third period, but Kyle Palmieri sparked a turnaround with a goal and an assist.

During the final period, Simon Holmstrom and Jean-Gabriel Pageau each found the back of the net, turning the tide in favor of New York. Horvat contributed significantly as well, registering two assists in addition to his shootout goal.

On the other side of the rink, Evgeni Malkin shone for the Penguins, providing a goal and an assist, while team captain Crosby netted his 598th career goal. Michael Bunting also contributed with a goal, and Rakell assisted on two of the team’s goals.

For Pittsburgh, goaltender Alex Nedeljkovich faced 27 shots and made 23 saves, but the defeat marked a tough stretch for the team, having lost seven out of their last nine games. They had briefly halted a six-game losing streak with back-to-back wins prior to this match.
