Democratic Representative Gerry Connolly successfully secured reelection for his U.S. House seat in Virginia on Tuesday.
At 74 years old, Connolly achieved his ninth term by defeating Republican candidate Mike Van Meter, a Navy veteran with previous experience as an FBI agent.
For nearly three decades, Connolly has been a prominent figure in the political landscape of northern Virginia.
His political journey began in 1995 when he was first elected as a supervisor for Fairfax County.
During his time in Congress, Connolly has taken a leading role in various oversight investigations.
He represents Virginia’s 11th District, which includes Fairfax County and its affluent suburbs that lie just outside of the nation’s capital.
At precisely 9:57 p.m. EST, congratulations poured in as the results confirmed Connolly’s victory.
