Republican Representative Virginia Foxx secured her reelection to the U.S. House of Representatives for North Carolina on Tuesday.
Foxx triumphed over Democrat Chuck Hubbard in the 5th Congressional District, an area that favors Republican candidates and is located in the northwestern part of the state, close to the Virginia border.
Having first entered Congress in 2004, Foxx has a background that includes serving as a community college president and a state legislator.
Currently, she chairs the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, which conducted hearings last year questioning university presidents regarding their responses to campus protests related to the Israel-Hamas conflict.
Following the retirement of Representative Patrick McHenry, Foxx is poised to become the longest-serving member of North Carolina’s congressional delegation.
The announcement of her victory was made at 9:26 p.m. EST.
