Democratic Representative Jesus “Chuy” Garcia successfully secured re-election for a U.S. House seat in Illinois on Tuesday.
The Chicago politician, known for his previous tenure as a county commissioner and past mayoral campaigns, comfortably achieved a fourth term in office.
In the March primary, he encountered a competitive challenge from Alderman Raymond Lopez, which heightened the electoral intensity.
The district he represents is largely Hispanic, comprising working-class neighborhoods and diverse communities on the southwest side of Chicago, in addition to affluent suburbs.
The announcement of Garcia’s victory came at 9:03 p.m. EST, solidifying his position in Washington.
