On Tuesday, Republican Darin LaHood was elected to serve in the U.S. House, representing Illinois.
He ran without opposition in both the primary and the general elections.
LaHood first entered Congress through a special election in 2015, stepping in for the disgraced former U.S. Representative Aaron Schock.
In addition to his political background, LaHood is a former state legislator and the son of Ray LaHood, who previously served as the U.S. Transportation Secretary and was also an Illinois congressman.
The congressional district he represents extends along the border of Illinois and Wisconsin, reaching into the north-central regions of the state.
His victory was officially recognized shortly after voting closed.
