On Tuesday, Republican Representative Laurel Lee secured her reelection to a U.S. House seat in Florida by overcoming Democratic challenger Patricia Kemp. Previously, Lee served as an assistant U.S. attorney and held the position of Florida’s secretary of state prior to her election to Congress in 2022.

Lee’s congressional district, which leans slightly towards the Republican party, showed support for former President Donald Trump during the 2020 election. The district encompasses the northeastern suburbs of Tampa and extends into the counties of Pasco and Polk.

In a notable role, she was among seven House Republicans selected to join a bipartisan task force that is focused on investigating the assassination attempt on Trump that occurred in Pennsylvania in July. The victory announcement was made at 7:57 p.m. EST.
