NEW YORK — On Election Day, a new video from Beyoncé made waves, as she embraced the iconic look of Pamela Anderson from the hit series “Baywatch,” complete with a vibrant red one-piece swimsuit, while encouraging the audience to cast their votes.
The two-and-a-half-minute film features the majority of “Bodyguard,” a track from her upcoming country album “Cowboy Carter.” In the video, Beyoncé draws inspiration from Anderson’s character before it wraps up with the straightforward yet impactful message displayed in white text: “Happy Beylloween,” followed by a clear call to action: “Vote.”
Former President Donald Trump addressed a rally in Pittsburgh the night prior, where he took a jab at Beyoncé’s appearance at a Kamala Harris event in Houston last month, prompting his supporters to boo in response to his remarks about the superstar.
“Beyoncé would come in. Everyone’s expecting a couple of songs. There were no songs. There was no happiness,” Trump remarked, referring to the event.
Unlike in 2016—when she performed at a rally for Hillary Clinton in Cleveland—Beyoncé did not take the stage to sing. Instead, she offered her endorsement for Harris and delivered an emotional speech, initially accompanied by Kelly Rowland, her former Destiny’s Child bandmate.
“I’m not here as a celebrity, I’m not here as a politician. I’m here as a mother,” Beyoncé emphasized during her speech.
“I’m a mother who is deeply concerned about the world my children and all children will grow up in, a world where we have the freedom to make decisions about our own bodies, a world without division,” she stated at the Houston rally, her place of origin.
“Imagine our daughters envisioning a future where there are no ceilings and no limitations,” she urged. “We must vote, and your participation is crucial.”
The Harris campaign has adopted Beyoncé’s song “Freedom,” from her groundbreaking 2016 album “Lemonade,” as its campaign anthem.
Harris previously used this song during her inaugural public event as a presidential candidate at her campaign headquarters in Delaware in July. In the same month, Beyoncé’s mother, Tina Knowles, officially expressed her support for Harris’s presidential bid.
Beyoncé granted her approval for the song’s use, as a campaign official, who requested to remain anonymous, confirmed the arrangement.
