In Frisco, Texas, discussions are underway concerning the Dallas Cowboys and the status of their quarterback, Dak Prescott. Team owner Jerry Jones has indicated that Prescott is anticipated to be sidelined for a minimum of four games due to a strained hamstring, which will require him to be placed on injured reserve.
Prescott suffered this injury during the latter part of a closely contested game in which the Cowboys fell to the Atlanta Falcons with a score of 27-21. Currently, the Cowboys hold a record of 3-5 and are set to face off against the Philadelphia Eagles, a fellow NFC East competitor with a 6-2 record, this coming Sunday. This matchup marks the second in a challenging sequence of four consecutive games against teams with winning records.
On Jones’ radio show, he mentioned, “This is going to take some time. I won’t guess on any timelines for his return, as that will depend greatly on how well his rehabilitation progresses.” This injury led to Cooper Rush stepping in as the starter, a role he successfully filled in 2022 when he led the team to a 4-1 record while Prescott was recovering from a thumb injury suffered in the opening game of the season. Rush has also contributed positively in the past when he had the opportunity to lead the team in Prescott’s absence.
Prescott’s ongoing absence represents yet another hurdle for the Cowboys in what has already been a tumultuous season. The team currently finds itself in the midst of its first three-game losing streak since the challenging 2020 season, during which Prescott missed the final 11 games due to an ankle injury.
According to Jones, “Dak’s injury is undoubtedly a setback for the team. However, we have confidence in Cooper’s ability to step up. We understand what strategies will work for the offense; we just need to collaborate effectively and leverage all of our players’ strengths game by game.”
Furthermore, Jones expressed optimism regarding the return of Micah Parsons, a two-time All-Pro pass rusher, who has been inactive for four games due to a high ankle sprain. Coach Mike McCarthy has also suggested that Parsons is likely to participate in practice on Wednesday, marking a significant step in his recovery process.
