LONG BEACH, California — In an impressive display of skill, Devin Askew netted 20 points as the Long Beach State Beach dominated La Verne, securing a 93-48 victory in their opening game of the season on Monday night.
Alongside his scoring prowess, Askew contributed effectively in other areas, recording five rebounds and five assists. His teammate TJ Wainwright also had a standout performance, scoring 18 points on an efficient 7-of-11 shooting, including making 2-of-3 from three-point range. Wainwright’s efforts were complemented by six rebounds and three steals. Additionally, Derrick Michael Xzavierro chipped in with 12 points, finishing the game hitting 6-of-14 attempts from the floor.
On the other side, La Verne’s Cody Aquino was the leading scorer for the Leopards, finishing the night with 16 points. He was supported by Paul Antonis, who contributed 11 points along with three steals. Logen Howard rounded out the scoring for La Verne with a total of seven points.
This match marked the beginning of the season for both teams, and the performance by Long Beach State sets an optimistic tone moving forward in their campaign.
