HAMPTON, Va. — In an impressive season opener, Hampton University showcased its strength by defeating Mid-Atlantic Christian with a remarkable score of 110-53 on Monday evening.
Leading the Pirates was Daniel Johnson, who contributed significantly to the win with 19 points, shooting 8 out of 15 from the field and sinking 3 of 6 from three-point range. George Beale also had a solid performance, scoring 15 points with an efficient shooting line of 5 for 9 overall, which included 2 successful three-pointers, as well as going a perfect 3 for 3 from the charity stripe. Kyrese Mullen rounded out the strong offensive showing by adding 14 points to the scoreboard, aided by his 5 for 11 shooting performance and going 1 for 3 from beyond the arc, in addition to grabbing 10 rebounds and making 3 of his 4 free-throw attempts.
On the other side, the Mustangs found their leading scorer in Tyus Williams, who managed to tally 11 points during the matchup. Teammate Janus Shepherd added 9 points, but the team struggled overall to keep up with the Pirates’ momentum.
