LAFAYETTE, La. — In an exciting season opener on Monday night, Kent State triumphed over Louisiana with a final score of 70-66, thanks in large part to the performance of VonCameron Davis, who netted 17 points.

Davis recorded an impressive shooting performance, hitting 2 of 5 attempts from the field and an outstanding 13 of 15 from the free-throw line. Supporting him was Morgan Safford, who contributed 15 points along with nine rebounds, while Cian Medley added 11 points, going 4 of 8 shooting, including one three-pointer.

On the other side, Kentrell Garnett led Louisiana with 14 points. The Ragin’ Cajuns also saw Christian Wright chip in with 11 points and three steals, while Zeke Cook contributed a solid 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds.

In the first half, Davis scored six points, helping Kent State to maintain a narrow lead at halftime with a score of 30-27. The game took a turn in the second half when Kent State launched a strong comeback, going on a 10-1 run that erased an eight-point deficit. This surge allowed them to take the lead at 57-56 with just 4:48 left in the game, with Safford scoring 11 of his total points after the break.
