Nets secure 106-104 victory over Grizzlies with Schroder and Johnson scoring 20 points each

NEW YORK — Dennis Schroder and Cam Johnson contributed 20 points each to lead the Brooklyn Nets to a 106-104 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday evening.

Dorian Finney-Smith chipped in with 17 points, while Cam Thomas and Nic Claxton added 13 and 10 points, respectively. This win brings the Nets’ record to an even 4-4 for the season.

On the Grizzlies’ side, Ja Morant tallied 25 points, with rookie Zach Edey achieving personal bests of 25 points alongside 11 rebounds. Jaren Jackson Jr. also made an impact with 15 points.

With the score tied at 101 and just 1:13 left on the clock, Finney-Smith nailed a key 3-pointer. Following that, Schroder skillfully maneuvered past Edey to finish with a layup, extending the Nets’ lead to 106-101 with only 32 seconds remaining in the game.

Jackson responded with a 3-pointer for Memphis, giving them a chance for a comeback, but Santi Aldama’s attempt at a 3-pointer failed as the buzzer sounded.

Highlights from the game included Edey’s flawless shooting performance in the third quarter, where he hit all five of his field goal attempts and added a free throw for a total of 13 points.

For the Nets, Johnson’s achievement marked his second consecutive game scoring at least 20 points, his third such occurrence since joining Brooklyn in the trade involving Kevin Durant.

A memorable moment of the match came when Morant thrilled the audience late in the second quarter with a spectacular layup following a mid-air spin. In the early part of the third quarter, he impressed again when Jackson set him up for a driving play that featured an impressive fake and a smooth reverse layup off the glass.

One significant statistic from the game was Memphis’s struggle with long-range shooting, as they converted only 8 of their 30 attempts from beyond the arc.

Looking ahead, the Nets will embark on a three-game road trip starting with a match against the Boston Celtics this Friday. Meanwhile, the Grizzlies are set to host the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday night.
