ELBERTON, Ga. — Authorities have recently taken four South Carolina residents into custody in connection with a deadly shooting that occurred on October 12 during a homecoming afterparty in Elberton, Georgia.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation revealed the arrests of Destanne Mathis, 20; Aanidras Parks, 18; Jerimiyah Hughes, 19; and Desmond Latimer, 18, who are all from Anderson, South Carolina.

They face serious charges including murder and gang involvement. In addition, Mathis and Latimer have also been charged as accessories to a crime, while Parks and Hughes face further accusations of aggravated assault and aggravated battery.

The incident took place at the 7 Grand nightclub, where a group of teenagers had gathered after Elbert County High School’s homecoming festivities. According to reports, over a dozen shots were fired during the altercation. Tragically, 15-year-old Bry’shun Treviyus O’Brian Jordan from Hartwell lost his life in the incident, and four other teenagers sustained gunshot injuries, while three more were reported to have been injured but not by gunfire.

Prior to the latest arrests, Jarquavious Scott, 18, also from Anderson, had been charged with murder and related offenses, including aggravated assault, aggravated battery, and violating Georgia’s anti-gang regulations.

As of now, it remains uncertain whether any of those arrested have legal representation. Investigators have yet to provide details regarding the motivations behind the shooting, leaving many questions unanswered surrounding this tragic event.
