ALBANY, Ga. — A man from Georgia has been apprehended and faces murder charges following a shooting incident that resulted in one fatality and injured several others during Albany State University’s homecoming weekend in October.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) announced the arrest of 18-year-old Jeremy Marshall from Albany last week.
Authorities revealed that Marshall is also connected to a previous shooting that occurred in August in Albany, which claimed another victim’s life.
Marshall has been charged with murder, aggravated assault, and unlawful possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He is currently being held in the Dougherty County jail without the option of bail. A court clerk noted that there is no attorney listed for him in the court documents as of Monday.
The shooting took place near a campus concert and resulted in the death of De’Marion Tashawn Daniels, a 19-year-old from Newnan, Georgia, who had no affiliation with the university’s 6,000-student body.
In addition, four individuals sustained injuries from the gunfire, including a 13-year-old girl, a 17-year-old girl, a 16-year-old girl, and a 20-year-old woman, according to the GBI. Furthermore, another female sustained injuries while fleeing the scene, although she was not shot.
Interim President Lawrence Drake II stated that the university is implementing measures to improve security on campus.
In the shooting incident on August 9, Aaron Donye White was killed, as reported by local media. Two individuals were charged in connection with White’s death, including 18-year-old Jordan Amond Edwards, who remains incarcerated awaiting trial without bail. Edwards faces serious charges including murder, aggravated assault, and unlawful possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. A woman linked to the incident has been released but faces lesser charges.
