In Jacksonville, Florida, the local law enforcement agency is currently examining footage that captures police officers engaging in physical confrontations with spectators at the recent Florida-Georgia football rivalry, held at EverBank Stadium.
Mayor Donna Deegan has communicated with Sheriff T.K. Waters about the incidents that took place during the highly anticipated match, informally dubbed “The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party.” Deegan expressed her concern over the disturbing clips shared online, stating on X, “I’m aware of several disturbing videos circulating from (Saturday’s) game. We are awaiting the outcome of that investigation.”
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has stated that it will refrain from making any comments until the investigation has been finalized. Their Professional Standards Division is looking into the videos that have surfaced and has initiated administrative reviews regarding the incidents. The Sheriff’s Office emphasized that no further statements will be made until all evidence is thoroughly assessed and the investigation is concluded.
Among the recorded incidents, one video depicts two officers engaged in a struggle with two fans in the stadium’s seating area, with nearby attendees shouting at the officers to cease their actions. Another video captures an altercation that escalates into a physical fight between a man and two officers, resulting in the man being left bloodied and restrained after reportedly being hit multiple times with a stun gun. However, neither video provides context regarding the events that led up to these confrontations.
As the investigation unfolds, the community is urged to stay informed about any developments regarding this concerning situation from the recent football game.
