MONTGOMERY, Ala. — On Sunday evening, Alabama Governor Kay Ivey received care from paramedics after experiencing instability during a campaign rally for congressional candidate Caroleene Dobson.
Ivey’s team later explained that she had become dehydrated but was recovering after receiving hydration treatment.
At the rally, held at SweetCreek Farm Market in Pike Road, which is approximately 18 miles southeast of Montgomery, witnesses noted that the 80-year-old governor was shaking as she stood alongside Dobson while gripping a beam for support.
Local news channel WAKA shared video footage from the event in which Ivey appeared unsteady on her feet. Eyewitness accounts indicated that her staff rushed to her aid, prompting the call for an ambulance.
In a statement provided by Ivey’s spokesperson, Gina Maiola, it was clarified that during the event supporting Dobson, the governor experienced dehydration. She was given fluids at the location and underwent a precautionary evaluation. The statement emphasized that Ivey began to feel better shortly thereafter and returned home in good spirits.
In addition, it is significant to note that Ivey has a history of health challenges; in 2019, she publicly disclosed her diagnosis of early-stage lung cancer and subsequent radiation treatments. By 2020, she reported that her condition had improved and her medical team regarded her as cancer-free.
Caroleene Dobson, who is vying for the Republican nomination in Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District, has received Governor Ivey’s endorsement in her political campaign.
