The Washington Nationals have opted not to exercise their $8 million mutual option for Joey Gallo, which officially makes him a free agent.
As part of the agreement reached earlier this year, Gallo will receive a $2.5 million buyout in addition to the previously established $2.5 million salary for the season.
With his 31st birthday approaching on November 19, Gallo ended the season with a batting average of .161, accompanied by 10 home runs and 27 runs batted in, along with a striking 102 strikeouts over 223 at-bats.
Gallo is known for his powerful hitting and has earned the title of All-Star twice throughout his career. Over a decade in Major League Baseball, he has maintained a career batting average of .194, totaling 208 home runs, 453 RBIs, and accumulating 1,292 strikeouts across 2,869 at-bats.
His extensive professional journey includes significant time spent with the Texas Rangers from 2015 to 2021, followed by stints with the New York Yankees (2021-2022), the Los Angeles Dodgers (2022), and the Minnesota Twins in 2023, before concluding with the Nationals.
