QUITO, Ecuador — A tragic accident occurred on Sunday when a truck carrying passengers plunged into a ravine in the Amazon region of Ecuador, resulting in the loss of ten lives, as reported by local law enforcement officials.
In the southeastern province of Morona Santiago, authorities confirmed that the only survivor from the devastating incident was a 3-year-old girl. At this time, officials have not provided details regarding the circumstances that led to the accident.
Ecuador’s Integrated Security Service issued a statement indicating that the vehicle came to rest near the Paute River after falling into the ravine during the morning hours. Images shared by the agency depict the truck overturned and resting on rocks at the riverbank, highlighting the severity of the accident.
The roads across the country experienced heavy traffic over the weekend due to a five-day holiday linked to the Day of the Dead celebrations, which may have contributed to the volume of vehicles on the road during this tragic incident.
