LORETTO, Pa. — In a commanding performance, Nick Whitfield Jr. threw two touchdown passes, and DeMarcus McElroy had a standout game with 147 rushing yards, as St. Francis triumphed over Stonehill with a score of 34-0 on Saturday.
The Red Flash, now at 3-6 overall and 1-4 in the Northeast Conference, demonstrated defensive dominance over Stonehill, which fell to 1-7 and 1-3 in conference play. St. Francis limited the Skyhawks to just five first downs and a mere 56 total yards, which included a staggering minus-four yards passing. The first half was particularly tough for Stonehill, as they compiled only minus-one yard of offense.
The turning point of the game came in the second quarter when St. Francis scored 20 points within that frame, thanks to impressive drives of four, four, and six plays. One of the highlights was McElroy’s impressive 50-yard rush that captivated the audience.
As the fourth quarter began, Whitfield connected with Jahmil Perryman for a significant 46-yard touchdown pass, extending the lead to 27-0. He then rounded off the scoring with a 14-yard touchdown pass to Gavin Thomson with 6:22 remaining in the game.
Whitfield completed 9 of 17 passes for 168 yards, while teammate Markell Holman contributed significantly on the ground with 15 carries for 61 yards and two rushing touchdowns.
For Stonehill, Jordan Irvine stood out on defense, recording 11 tackles and maintaining his streak of double-digit tackles for the second consecutive game. Quarterback Cole Clarke struggled, completing 2 of 8 passes and throwing one interception for the Skyhawks.
