ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The top-ranked Oregon Ducks faced a tough blow during their game against Michigan on Saturday when they lost their top receiver and punt return specialist, Tez Johnson, to what appeared to be an injury in the first quarter.
Johnson showcased his abilities early in the game with a 21-yard punt return and an 11-yard reception on Oregon’s second offensive play before exiting the contest.
In his absence, Ryan Pellum stepped in after Michigan’s second punt, but the Wolverines subsequently recovered a fumble that put them in a favorable position to equalize with a touchdown.
This season, Johnson has been a standout performer for the Ducks, leading the team and ranking among the NCAA leaders with a total of 64 receptions. Over the course of the season, the senior has accumulated 649 receiving yards, secured eight touchdown receptions, and even scored on an impressive 85-yard punt return.
Oregon will seek to adjust to this setback as they continue their season in pursuit of a national championship. The impact of Johnson’s absence will certainly be felt as the team strategizes for upcoming games.
