MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee Brewers have chosen not to exercise Gary Sánchez’s $11 million mutual option for the 2025 season, which means the catcher is now a free agent.
Sánchez, who will celebrate his 32nd birthday on December 2, will receive a $4 million buyout in addition to his $3 million salary set for the 2024 season.
Additionally, the Brewers have made a trade, sending utility player Owen Miller to the Colorado Rockies in exchange for cash.
During the recent season, Sánchez recorded a batting average of .220, along with a .307 on-base percentage and a slugging percentage of .392. Over the course of 89 games, he hit 11 home runs and drove in 37 runs.
Throughout his ten-year career in Major League Baseball, spanning teams such as the New York Yankees (2015-2021), Minnesota Twins (2022), New York Mets (2023), San Diego Padres (2023), and the Brewers, Sánchez has achieved a career batting average of .224, a .309 on-base percentage, and has tallied 184 home runs and 485 RBIs.
Owen Miller, who will turn 28 on November 15, had limited action with the Brewers this season, appearing in just 14 games where he posted a .185 batting average with no home runs and three RBIs. He also showcased a better performance with Triple-A Nashville, hitting .276, achieving a .354 on-base percentage, and contributing five home runs, 37 RBIs, and nine stolen bases in 91 games.
In his time with Milwaukee during the 2023 season, Miller recorded a .261 batting average, with five home runs, 27 RBIs, and 13 stolen bases over 90 games. Previously, he has also played for the Cleveland Guardians from 2021 to 2022.
