ATLANTA — The Atlanta Braves have finalized a two-year agreement with left-handed pitcher Aaron Bummer valued at $13 million, while also adjusting a three-year contract worth $30 million with All-Star Reynaldo López, ensuring the right-hander receives an additional $4 million.
Bummer previously signed a five-year deal worth $16 million with the Chicago White Sox, which included a $7.25 million option that came with a $1.25 million buyout. Under the new agreement, he will earn $3.5 million in the 2024 season and $9.5 million in 2026.
The updated contract for López, which he originally agreed to last November, entails salaries of $4 million for 2024 and $11 million for the following two years. Additionally, it includes an $8 million club option for 2027 with a $4 million buyout. Following the revision, Lopez’s contract includes $8 million for 2025, $14 million in 2026, and $8 million in 2027.
Both players have committed to donating one percent of their salaries to the Atlanta Braves Foundation, showcasing their dedication to community involvement.
Furthermore, the Braves have called up right-hander Domingo Gonzalez from Triple-A Gwinnett, adding depth to their pitching roster.
Bummer, who is 31 years old, was brought to Atlanta from the White Sox last November as part of a trade that included pitchers Mike Soroka, Jared Shuster, and Riley Gowens, along with infielders Nicky Lopez and Braden Shewmake.
In the previous season, Bummer made 56 appearances, earning a 4-3 record with a 3.58 ERA. He struck out 69 batters while walking 18 in 55 1/3 innings. Throughout his eight seasons, he has compiled an 18-18 record with a 3.79 ERA and five saves across 345 relief outings with both the White Sox and Braves.
On the other hand, 30-year-old López had an impressive season, finishing with an 8-5 record and a remarkable 1.99 ERA over 25 starts and one relief appearance. He struck out 148 batters, with 42 walks over 135 2/3 innings pitched. Over his nine-year career, López has a record of 47-54 with a 3.93 ERA, spread across 122 starts and 145 relief appearances with teams that include Washington, the White Sox, the Los Angeles Angels, Cleveland, and now the Braves.
