SAN FRANCISCO — Zack Minasian has been elevated to the position of general manager for the San Francisco Giants, a decision announced on Friday. This promotion positions him alongside his brother, Perry Minasian, who serves as the general manager for the Los Angeles Angels, marking a rare occurrence of siblings leading in major league baseball front offices.
At 41 years old, Zack Minasian previously held the role of vice president of professional scouting for the Giants, a position he acquired in 2022. Prior to his time with the Giants, Minasian spent 14 years with the Milwaukee Brewers, where he cultivated a robust career in various capacities related to scouting and baseball operations.
Perry Minasian took on his role as the general manager of the Angels in November 2020. Zack’s recent promotion represents the first significant decision made by Buster Posey, who stepped into the role of president of baseball operations after replacing Farhan Zaidi.
During his tenure with the Brewers, Zack held several key positions, including special adviser for baseball operations, director of professional scouting, manager of minor league scouting, and coordinator of professional scouting, gaining valuable insight along the way.
In a statement about his new position, Minasian expressed his enthusiasm for the Giants organization, highlighting the existing core of talent both at the major league and minor league levels, the dedication of the fan base, the impressive alumni network, and the team’s commitment to community involvement.
Posey, who previously excelled as an All-Star catcher, was hired at the end of September after the Giants concluded their season with a record of 80-82 in manager Bob Melvin’s inaugural year, showing only a slight improvement over 2023. The franchise has not seen playoff action since they captured the NL West title in 2021.
After retiring from baseball in November 2021, Posey joined the Giants’ ownership group in September 2022. He commended Zack’s extensive experience, stating, “Zack has brought a wealth of knowledge and a lot of experience to the organization in his six years here. He’s also a thorough talent evaluator.”
