Milwaukee, WI – On Friday, Rhys Hoskins, the first baseman for the Milwaukee Brewers, opted to utilize his $18 million contract option for the 2025 season instead of accepting a $4 million buyout that would have allowed him to enter free agency once more.

In January, Hoskins signed a two-year contract worth $34 million, but his 2023 season was cut short due to a torn ACL that he suffered while playing in a spring training game with the Philadelphia Phillies. His current contract also features an $18 million mutual option for the 2026 season, accompanied by a $4 million buyout.

Throughout this season, taking a look at his performance, the 31-year-old recorded a batting average of .214, complemented by a .303 on-base percentage and a .419 slugging percentage. He managed to hit 26 home runs and drive in 82 runs, but it’s important to note that these statistics represent the lowest figures of his career in terms of batting average, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage.

Over the course of his career, Hoskins has maintained a batting average of .238 along with a .346 on-base percentage and a .481 slugging percentage. He has also achieved notable milestones, including 174 home runs and 487 RBIs across 798 games played for both the Philadelphia Phillies from 2017 to 2022 and the Brewers. These figures highlight his contributions to the teams he has played for, despite the struggles faced this past season.
