NEW YORK — This Halloween, Heidi Klum and Janelle Monáe dazzled their fans with imaginative costumes, both opting to embody the beloved alien character E.T. from Steven Spielberg’s iconic 1982 film, “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.”
While the resemblance might spark playful “who wore it best” discussions across celebrity circles, each star presented a unique take on the classic character.
Klum styled her costume to reflect Mrs. E.T. complemented by her husband Tom Kaulitz, who dressed up as E.T. himself. Klum’s creation was particularly eye-catching, featuring animatronic eyes, an elongated neck, and her signature blonde hair.
Monáe took a different direction, portraying a rounder version of E.T., making her way down the red carpet at her Halloween event with a distinctive waddle.
Her costume also included a yellow index finger, reminiscent of the character’s glowing appendage from the film.
Both stars are known for their extravagant Halloween celebrations. They celebrated on opposite coasts this year, with Klum hosting her party in New York and Monáe in Universal City, California.
Klum’s costume ingeniously allowed her to see and speak from within E.T.’s neck, thanks to a mechanical design that animated the character’s mouth as she spoke.
“I have been a fan of E.T. since I was 9 years old,” Klum shared. She also expressed her enthusiasm for playing with the character’s proportions, saying, “I just love becoming this thing. E.T. is very small and so I thought it would be fun to kind of play with the proportions too.”
During Klum’s Halloween party, she and Kaulitz shared a tender moment, touching their heads together amidst a dramatic smoke and light show showcasing their costumes. Meanwhile, Monáe unveiled her E.T. look during an appearance on “The Jennifer Hudson Show.”
She participated in a creative photo shoot showcased on Instagram, mimicking one of the film’s legendary scenes where she rides a bicycle with E.T. nestled in a basket.
