Orlando Magic’s Paolo Banchero suffers a tear in his right oblique muscle.

Orlando, Florida – The Orlando Magic announced on Thursday evening that their standout player, Paolo Banchero, has sustained a torn right oblique muscle following additional testing in Cleveland.

Jeff Weltman, the team’s President of Basketball Operations, confirmed that Banchero’s recovery timeline is currently uncertain, stating that he will be re-evaluated in four to six weeks.

Banchero suffered the injury during the final quarter of the Magic’s recent victory over the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday night. In a remarkable performance earlier in the week, he recorded a career-high 50 points in a game against the Indiana Pacers, and he is netting an impressive average of 29 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 5.6 assists across the first five games of the season.

Selected as the top pick in the 2022 NBA draft, Banchero has quickly established himself as one of the league’s rising stars.

The Magic are scheduled to face the Cavaliers in Cleveland on Friday night, but will have to adjust their lineup in light of their star player’s absence.
